The monument was designed by Captain Charles Mant, while the bust was executed by the English sculptor Charles Francis Fuller in 1874. It has the shape of a canopy supported by four small columns, under which is placed the sculpted bust of the deceased Indian prince Rajaram Chuttraputti of Kolhapur, who died in Florence in 1870, possibly from a lung infection. The prince's body, as per Hindu rite, was cremated at the confluence of two rivers (in Florence we have the Arno and the Mugnone), from where his ashes were scattered. On the base supporting the sculpture, an inscription is engraved in four languages (Italian, English, Hindi, and Punjabi), although it is barely legible.
