Gut Brodau is one of the oldest manor houses in Schleswig-Holstein, built in 1530 by Heinrich Rantzau on an island surrounded by a wide body of water. You reach the estate through a stately gatehouse with a bell tower. The farm complex is dominated by a massive, elongated barn from the mid-16th century. It rests on a base of fieldstones, has arched door and window openings, and is crowned by a small tower with a bell. The inland water has an average depth of approx. 90 centimeters. In the predominantly shallower areas, it is only about 50 centimeters deep, while in the few deeper areas it is up to three meters deep.
