The Moulin à Vent near Les Piardes is located in the municipality of Bessenay, west of Lyon, in the hilly landscape of the Monts du Lyonnais. "Les Piardes" and "Moulin à Vent" have been preserved to this day as separate place names or lieux-dits. Of the former windmill, the stone mill tower has been preserved, which is reminiscent of the former use of wind power for grinding grain. The exposed location on the heights offered favorable wind conditions and a wide view over the surrounding cultural landscape. The local Association de patrimoine et d’environnement explicitly advocated for the restoration of the mill tower. Today, the mill ruin is considered one of the small testimonies to the traditional rural way of life in the region.
