To the north of Cap Blanc Nez (halfway to Sangatte) is the statue of Hubert Latham, a pioneer of French aviation who attempted to cross the English Channel in 1909. On July 19, he took off from Cap Blanc-Nez in his plane Antoinette IV. After 13 km, he had engine problems.
