A true medieval fortress built on 11th century foundations, completed in the 13th century, then partly transformed during the Renaissance. The four corner towers, the two entrance towers defending the drawbridge, the moat and the dovecote surround the charming square interior courtyard. Since 1951, the pottery workshop, exhibitions, shows and courses have made Ratilly a leading art center. The well-preserved ensemble from the second half of the 13th century is a four-wing structure around an almost square inner courtyard, which is surrounded at the corners by four mighty round towers and is accessed on the south side via a portal flanked by similar towers. The buildings are surrounded all around by a now dry moat. Despite a variety of later structural measures, especially the post-medieval changes to the southern defensive buildings into homely refuges with open window fronts in the style of a castle, they have hardly lost any of the former fortified character of a castle complex. The historic castle is now a cultural center, a place where numerous concerts take place every summer and contemporary artists exhibit. In 2015 the facility had over 12,200 visitors. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_Ratilly

The beautiful church of Treigny - Saint-Symphorien from the 15th century - is open for a visit (or a prayer). This should not be missed.

City of character which deserves to be among the most beautiful villages in France with a little more development. To have : 1 - the castle and the small surrounding village after a beautiful climb from the village. 2 - the pond hidden behind the houses in the center. A quiet corner with a beautiful overview of the village. There you will understand where the name Belles Fontaines comes from.

From the outside this church looks a bit portly and depressed. The church tower with such an irregular cross-section that one might assume that the master builder threw in the towel when building the church tower top and only quickly added a simple top. However, once you enter the interior, excitement follows. A lot of oil paintings adorn the walls, from different eras. You feel like you are in a museum. On the wall with the front door are 4 17th-century paintings of Saints Saint Augustine, Saint Ambroise, Saint Jérôme and Saint Grégoire. The monumental paintings of the cloister are from 1836.

Bridge built at the time of the fortified castle and the church (12th century). It replaced a wooden bridge established over a ford by Saint Romain in the 6th century. In the Middle Ages, bridge and castle went hand in hand because any river crossing gave rise to a toll. In 1859, the bridge, which was 5.50 m wide, was widened by 2.50 m to adapt it to the transformation of the main roads into secondary roads. During 2004, it was completely renovated.
