Uzel Rock

Highlight • Other

Pléchâtel-Lohéac station, on the Rennes to Redon railway line, is located at the foot of the Uzel rock. This rock was, without a doubt, the highest and wildest site on the banks of the Vilaine before the passage of the railway, which made it partially disappear. At the top were huge stones, shaped like a statue. Around the middle, there are still natural caves where you can see the names of the walkers who have visited them, engraved on the shale of the walls. These caves, which were quite difficult in the past, are almost impassable today.
It is there, on this rock, before the construction of the bridge which now connects the town of Pléchâtel to that of Saint-Malo-de-Phily, that we were told half a century ago by an old man called Richomme , boatman responsible for transporting passengers from one bank to the other, the legend of the Rocher d'Uzel (...).
see "The legend of the Rocher d'Uzel" in "Les contes du pays gallo" by Adolphe Orain (published in 1904).

Alignments du Moulin

Highlight • Monument

The menhirs of Brittany are large, mostly solitary monoliths erected by the people of the Megalithic culture, some of which were later toppled or repurposed.

The Neolithic Megalithic culture reached its peak between 4500 and 2500 BC. With some dating back to around 4000 BC, these monuments are significantly older than, for example, the Egyptian pyramids, which were built around 2500 BC.

The pottery found dates this tomb to around 2500 and 3500 BC. This tomb with a side entrance, more than 15 meters long, was very degraded. It is 15 meters long and is a real spectacle.

The cycle path along the Vilaine is truly a MUST! It runs directly along the river and has many locks. At each of the locks, there are beautifully maintained guardhouses, some of which are even kitsch. The cycle path doesn't stray more than 10 meters from the river and has a very well-maintained surface. I had the pleasure of following it for over 40 kilometers.

The covered alley of Tréal or also called Grotte aux fées according to a legend is an isolated burial site, located at the top of a hill called "La butte de Tréal" or "the rock of Tréal".
