A true institution in Chablais, the Hôtel La Verniaz has survived the ages without losing any of its character and authenticity. The origin of the name of this old Savoyard farm from the 17th century comes from the Celtic word “vergne” which designates Alder, a tree present on the banks of waterways. In the 1920s, the building was transformed by Auguste Florinetti into a tea room. Called “La Potinière”, it is a place of meeting and exchange for Evian society. La Verniaz became a hotel in 1932. In the heart of an immense green setting, the hotel wrote the first chapter of its history. Suzanne and Marcel Verdier took over La Verniaz nine years later. They make it a prestigious establishment where they pass on their knowledge and their passion for Hostellerie. An important couple who will mark the history of this house and will welcome many personalities such as Elizabeth Taylor, Charlie Chaplin, Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin. La Verniaz is becoming an essential address on the banks of Lake Geneva. Seduced by the charm and tranquility of the place, the Evian Resort will take over management of the establishment in 2021.
