From the north / west (St. Pierre) the road is in really bad condition (08/2020), there are some sections for which a gravel bike would be more suitable. You shouldn't be surprised that shortly before the summit it goes downhill for a relatively long time, only to then climb again well. On the east side, you can either descend right into the valley (but be careful: very long, completely unlit tunnel on the descent !!) or to the left to the Petites Roches.
