At first glance, it may seem surprising that a statue was dedicated to the Italian polymath LEONARDO da VINCI (1452 to 1519) here in the French Loire Valley. But you have to know that he spent the last years of his life in the neighboring castle of Le Clos Lucé at the invitation of the French king and died there on May 2, 1519. His grave is believed to be in the Hubertus Chapel - see https://www.komoot.com/de-de/highlight/958658 - but it is not certain whether his remains are actually there.

The castle and the whole ensemble are impressive! The view of the castle through Da Vinci's laser sculpture was made possible by the position of the sun.

Our B&B landlords recommended several restaurants to us. We went to the Le Parvis restaurant - with a fantastic view of the Loire and the castle. It was warm and we could sit outside. It is important to either reserve a place in good time or get there early - so by 6 p.m. at the latest. After that it gets full quickly. For anyone who didn't find anything there, I have put the slate with the recommendations of our B&B accommodation next to the pictures.

Very pleasant short 35km tour between the Loire and the vineyards (apart from 2km of departmental road)
