The three-aisled Church of St. Vaast was built in the late 19th century on a Latin cross plan. It incorporates Romanesque (especially in the ornamentation), Gothic (including the pointed arches and rose windows), and Byzantine elements... in other words, in an "eclectic style." It was consecrated in 1893. Saint Vaast (= Vedastus, Gaston, Foster, etc.) was a 6th-century bishop of Arras. In art, the saint is depicted as a bishop with a bear or wolf, both symbols of paganism. In front of the Bondues Cultural Centre, you'll find this Art Brut sculpture by Eugène Dodeigne (after whom the square where it stands is named, by the way): 𝘓𝘦𝘴 𝘛𝘳𝘰𝘪𝘴 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘴, in blue Soignie limestone. The artist Eugène Dodeigne lived in Bondues for 65 years, where he had his studio. He also created the sculptures for the fountain in Place de la République in Lille.

René (René-Henri-Séraphin) d'Hespel de Flencques (1840-1926) was mayor of Bondues from 1881 to 1925. He was a scion of a family that played an important role in the judiciary and politics for three centuries. René d'Hespel had a castle built here in 1885, but it burned down in 1945 (almost two decades after his death). As of 2025, all that remains of the castle are the moat, an elegant stone bridge, and the Hespelbos woods. The farm that belonged to the castle still exists. It was purchased by the municipality in 2014 and restored between 2017 and 2020 to provide space for community and civic life. Source: ville-bondues.fr

The chapel at the corner of Rue René d'Hespel and the avenue leading to the Château d'Hespel (on the site of the eponymous castle, built in 1885 and destroyed by fire in 1945) is dedicated to Our Lady. On the side walls are an expression of trust ("I trust in your confidence") and a prayer ("The whole fate will be delivered - we will always").
