Monastery of Santa María de la Valldigna

Highlight • Religious Site

Wonderful Cistercian-style monastery founded in 1298 by Jaume II el Just, one of the historical jewels that remain from the ancient Kingdom of Valencia.
Since April 2022 it has been open to the public and deserves to be visited. Inside the enclosure there are ruins of the various buildings that were part of the old monastery and that today are partly under recovery work.
It is a very quiet and beautiful place a few meters from the town of Simat that also deserves to be included in the tour and has many hiking trails.

A historical icon of the city of Gandía, this palace used to be the residence of the renowned Borja. The exterior is not flashy and can go unnoticed, but the interior is very picturesque and ostentatious, something usual for the time in this type of palace. It deserves a visit!

The only crossing over the river. Suitable spot for a picnic. It's not far to Villalonga from here.

There are several tunnels on the route. 2 to 3 longer ones: you absolutely need light. Otherwise, it's pitch dark.

A beautiful hike through the Hell's Gorge. The actual route along the railway line, and probably the most interesting section between L'Orcha and Mare de Deu (Barranco del Infierno = Hell's Gorge), is unpaved and unpaved, in some parts very gravelly and rough. Five metal bridges are missing, two stone bridges remain, and six tunnels are traversed, all without lighting.

On Grabel, it's advisable to keep your tire pressures correct. I recommend over-inflating rather than underinflating. There are some cobblestone areas.
