The Peklo National Nature Monument connects two villages - Dubice and Zahrádky. It is a route for hikers, which leads through wonderful nature. The trail accompanies visitors through local beauties in the valley of the Robečský stream, including a ruin and bizarre rock formations. And the start of the hike, of course, at Zahrádky Chateau, where you can also park.

Zahrádky Castle (Neugarten) is an impressive complex in the town of the same name. Unfortunately, a large part of the roof was destroyed in a fire. The extensive grounds, with their magnificent castle park, are situated above the Peklo Gorge, also known as "Hell's Valley." The town offers good dining options and places to buy groceries.

The new castle in Zahrádky/Neugarten, which was the only one of the Wallensteins' expropriated goods that was returned to the heirs, burned down in 2003 shortly after the roof structure was renovated... and thus became a ruin again. 😞

Walking through the Peklo Valley, you will pass many rock formations, rock flats, overhangs, walk along forest paths and wooden footbridges. Beautiful! And the start of the route is at Zámek Zahrádka.

The castle has existed since 1306 and was rebuilt in the Baroque style in the second half of the 17th century. For centuries, the Berka von Dubá family owned the manor and chateau. From 1632 the town and palace of Reichstadt belonged to the dukes of Saxe-Lauenburg (whose coat of arms can also be found in the town). After that, the owners changed frequently. - It is known as the summer residence of the Austrian Emperor Ferdinand I.
