Impressive: the harbor with the Riva, the old town of Makarska and the over 1600 m high Biokovo Mountains, the Franciscan monastery.

What a fantastic view 👀 of the Adriatic coast 😍. And the sight of the road winding downhill in hairpin bends makes you want to head out 😁🤠.

If you start in Omis you have two options. Either along the Cetina to Kucice and then via Slime to Dubci and from there back along the main road to Omis. It is recommended to drive up to Lokva Rogoznica at the second tunnel. It is really steep at the beginning but the view at the top is simply fantastic. There is also the longer alternative via Gata and Blato na Cetina. Then it is simply hinterland.

Makarska, with its beautiful old town on the harbor and in close proximity to the mountains, is one of the highlights on the Croatian coast

Small border post between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, where it is possible to pass without living in the region. Some borders, the smaller ones, are reserved for locals and you will be refused entry from one side or the other. No expectations at this one, small and without cars during my visit. Note that by bike, it is not necessary to queue and that you can overtake cars when the queue is too long.

Zadvarje is a small town in Dalmatia, Croatia. Located a few kilometers from the Adriatic coast, it can be discovered at the end of a beautiful climb on the edge of the Biokovo natural park. Built overlooking the canyon of the Cetina river, it is the starting point for many canyoning routes. The city is also known for its very large market, which takes place there every Tuesday and which attracts people from all the neighboring towns. Between mountain and river, a small pearl still very little impacted by tourism.

Both Biokovo and Mosor offer challenging road cycling with significant climbs. Biokovo is characterized by its close proximity to the Adriatic Sea, providing dramatic coastal views alongside its mountainous terrain and limestone formations. Mosor, while also rugged, tends to be more inland, offering different geological features and views. Biokovo's routes often feature longer, sustained ascents directly from sea level, leading to higher elevations like the Sv. Jure Ascent Road.
Given the significant elevation changes and potential for varied weather, layering is recommended. Even on warm days, temperatures can drop considerably at higher altitudes or during descents. Essential gear includes a helmet, appropriate cycling attire, sunglasses, and sun protection. For longer rides, carrying extra water and snacks is advisable, especially as services can be sparse on some mountain sections.
While the more remote sections within the Biokovo Nature Park may have limited facilities, routes closer to coastal towns like Makarska, Brela, or Baška Voda offer opportunities for refreshments. It's advisable to plan your route to include stops in these towns or carry sufficient supplies, especially on longer or more challenging rides that venture into less populated areas.
