September 13, 2025, Exe Estuary Trail

Look out for an entrance onto a footpath on your right, which follows beside the railway tracks on your left, and the exe estuary on your right. The path is too narrow for cycling but great for walking and running.

A good few 'dings' of a bell will alert walkers in the tunnel if on your bike! If you don't have a bell - a big old 'Woo Woooo' will carry down the tunnel as well!

Are there easy, family-friendly touring cycling routes in South West England?

Yes, South West England has many easy and family-friendly options. The Exe Estuary trail loop from Exeter to Exmouth is a largely flat, traffic-free path offering scenic views. Other popular traffic-free trails suitable for families include the Camel Trail in Cornwall and the Tarka Trail in North Devon, both following old railway lines.

Where can I find challenging touring cycling routes in South West England?

For a challenge, consider routes that venture into the National Parks. The Plymouth to Tavistock loop on the Drake's Trail includes significant climbs, especially through Dartmoor National Park. Another demanding option is the Chew Valley Lake loop from Bristol, which features substantial elevation changes.

Are there any circular touring cycling routes in the region?

Many routes in South West England are designed as loops, offering a convenient way to explore. The Poole Harbour loop - Dorset takes you through coastal areas around the harbour.
