The St. Nicholas Church in Durnholz is a high Gothic gem at the end of the Sarntal. A particularly beautiful photo opportunity is when the church is reflected in the lake.

From Lake Durnholz, an asphalt farm path leads in a large arc up to the farms above the lake. At the same time the first climb from the lake up to the Seeb Alm, Flagscharter (Marburger) hut or circular hikes over Tellerjoch and Jakobspitze.

Nice place to stop for a break during a circular hike or ascent to the Jakobspitze. Please note the short opening times in summer.

January 22, 2024, Jakobspitze Summit

The Jakobspitze (2742m) can be climbed in a beautiful circular hike from the Durnholzer See (1535m), ascending via Tellerjoch (2520m) and continuing over the western ridge (be careful of slippery boulders). The summit cross only comes into view relatively late. From up here there is a great view of the Dolomites and Sarntal Alps. In total, you will climb around 1250 meters. For the descent, it is recommended to hike down quickly and easily over boulders and gravel via the Flaggerscharte. One spot before the Flaggerscharte is secured. Via the Flaggerscharte (Marburger) hut (approx. 2500m) with good opportunities to stop for a break, the long path leads down into the valley floor to the Durnholzer See. Total hiking time approx. 7 hours.

January 22, 2024, Tellerjoch

If you hike from Dornholzer See up to Tellerjoch, you have the opportunity to climb the Jakobspitze summit (2742m). The path, more demanding, runs along the west ridge, often over boulders (be careful, slippery) to the summit cross of the Jacobspitze and on the descent to the Marburger Hut. It is also possible to descend immediately from Tellerjoch and continue hiking directly to the Marburger Hut.
