Mem marks the eastern terminus of the Göta Canal, where Sweden's historic waterway meets the Baltic Sea. This location is significant not only as a navigational point but also as the site where the entire canal system was inaugurated on September 26, 1832, by King Charles XIV John

The Södlerköping Lock spans over the Göta canal and was built in 1847. However, the lock you see today is not the original one that dates back to 1832. It is a neat place to take a stroll and some scenic pictures.

The ice cream here is much better than the highly praised ice cream in Söderköping (which isn't bad either). The cake and coffee were also of excellent quality. Highly recommended.

Not far from Söderköping lies this wonderful café and restaurant. It's a bit on the expensive side, but the quality is also very high. The owner gave us very detailed advice on our espresso order, and we ended up with two truly delicious, different cups. Unfortunately, we were already completely full, otherwise we certainly would have eaten something. There's a few seats inside and plenty outside. We were also able to refill our water here. There's also a station for simple bike repairs and a pump. https://jolla.se/ Mon-Sun: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
