November 7, 2023, Broken Boyfriend Trail

Broken Boyfriend Trail doesn't have a significant amount of climbing, but it does have enough tech and exposed rock to keep it on the difficult side. Like a lot of other trails in the area, it offers incredible sweeping views of the Swatch Range and the town of Buena Vista.

Midland Bike Trail is mostly flat smooth singletrack trail and follows a section of the former Midland Railroad. However there are a few short technical spots where the bridges have been removed. There are some stunning wide open views of the Collegiate Peaks and the town of Buena Vista.

November 7, 2023, Rainbow Trail

The Rainbow Trail has a little bit of everything. After an initial climb you get a rolling traverse along a ridge on Methodist Mountain before dropping to down on a fast technical section.

This section of the Continental Divide Trail is alpine riding at its best. The singletrack is mostly above treeline and the views are spectacular. Be aware that the snow usually hangs around until July.

October 26, 2023, Alpine Station

The Alpine Station is an old restored rail station that sits at 11,253 feet in elevation. It was part of the Alpine Tunnel, which was the highest railroad tunnel in North America, connecting Denver to Gunnison. The tunnel is now sealed shut, but the nearby relics are a nice glimpse of the past.

This is the last part of the "Monarch Crest" IMBA Epic Trail before you reach Highway 285 to roll back to Poncha Springs. It's worth looking back to the crest – very impressive!
