The Benn Knob Trail is like a lot of the other trails in South Mountain State Park. The path is wide, fairly smooth, and feels more like an old hilly road than a mountain trail. There are very few trails within the park that are open to bikes, but this is one of them, so be aware of other trail users.

The Horseridge Trail connects the Upper CCC and Lower CCC Trails in the South Mountains State Park. The trail leads through nice forest along natural paths and allows you to hike a large loop through the state park.

The Big Bear Trail, that leads to the falls of the same name, is one of the newest in the South Mountain State Park and makes a visit to the waterfalls possible. Compared to the famous High Shoals Falls, those falls are way less popular (but no less beautiful!) and if you're lucky, you can enjoy the waterfalls without any other people.

February 6, 2024, High Shoals Falls

Measurements of High Shoals Falls range from 50 to 80 feet, and the giant cascade is the star of the park for good reason. If you run on one of the trails past the falls, you'll see way fewer people than on the waterfall trails, themselves. Snap a picture and keep on running!
