Mashapaug Lake, encompassing 297 acres, nestled in Bigelow Hollow State Park and Nipmuck State Forest in Union, northeastern Connecticut. The lake reaches a depth of 39.5 feet and is accessible for public fishing, boating, and swimming. During winter, ice fishing is a popular activity. The lake teems with various fish species, such as sunfish, yellow perch, chain pickerel, largemouth and smallmouth bass, brown and rainbow trout, and channel catfish.

The Cat Rocks are a series of small hills and ridges right on the Connecticut side of the Massachusetts-Connecticut state border. As you hike along Cat Rocks Road, you get ocassional views through the trees over the Nipmuck Forest and of Breakneck Pond, a long, shallow body or freshwater just east of Cat Rocks.
