Going to lump a lot of things together here as one highlight. There is a pioneer cabin, a historic mill site, lots of historical placks. Plus a bunch of ice cream, chocolate, and candy stores. A hopping bar and grill with a big patio in the back, which I didn't realize from the main street side. Neat place, first time I have stopped for a few minutes here. Usually I'm trying to get to one of the parks north of here.

Square Lake Park is part of the Washington County park system, so you need a parking pass if you are driving here. The lake is clear and deep in the center. It's used for dive training. It's also a great lake for paddleboarding. It was on my list of things to do today, but I was worried it might be too windy. Didn't look like it when I got there.

White Bear Lake is known as Bde Maṭo Ská by the Native Dakota people, and they were known for using the lake's island as a source for making Maple syrup. In his book "Life on the Mississippi" (1883) Mark Twain described the lake as such: "The White-bear Lake is less known. It is a lovely sheet of water, and is being utilized as a summer resort by the wealth and fashion of the State. It has its club-house, and its hotel, with the modern improvements and conveniences; its fine summer residences; and plenty of fishing, hunting, and pleasant drives. There are a dozen minor summer resorts around about St. Paul and Minneapolis, but the White-bear Lake is the resort."
