Great view!
Anyone who wants to see the Okanagan Valley from above should have been at Giants Head in Summerland. You can drive up and then walk about 20min to the summit and have a fantastic view. We recommend.

October 23, 2025, Giants Head Summit

The summit of Giant’s Head Mountain offers sweeping panoramas across the Okanagan Valley — look out over the shimmering waters of Okanagan Lake, the vineyards of the Naramata Bench, and the hills surrounding Penticton. From here, you’re perched above the valley’s patchwork of orchards, vineyards and lakefront homes, making the viewpoint a standout for both sunrise and sunset. It’s accessible enough for many hikers yet delivers those “high vantage” views that feel more remote.

Does anyone know what it looks like there now? At least in the third photo, it looks to me (also based on the "fresh" earth edges on the left and right) as if the path is simply not finished here yet and the surface is still being built.

Adra Tunnel (aka The Big Tunnel) is a long tunnel on the Kettle Valley Rail Trail. This spiral tunnel, 489 meters (1604 feet) long, was the longest tunnel on the KVR. The entrances are partially blocked with cement walls to prevent access due to rock falls and some flooding. The Kettle Valley Rail-Trail/ Trans Canada Trail bypasses the tunnel via a short trail. Although it's blocked a short way in due to instability, it's still worth checking out. In Aug 2022, with increased interest in bikepacking the KVR, there were rumours of a restoration project.

Railway lines to cycle paths - that's great!

Hello bike partner, I agree with you. The west direction is better on the Kettle Valley Railway. However, if you cycle through Canada completely, it is better to drive from west to east, as this is the prevailing wind direction. I met umpteen touring riders fleeing against the wind. Almost everything is European. Most Canadians fly to Vancouver and then drive back.
