Located on the Ottawa River in the Laurentians, the canal was built starting in the 1820s and opened in 1833. Originally, it was part of a network of canals designed to bypass the Long-Sault rapids and facilitate navigation between Montreal, Ottawa and beyond.

A cute place to stop for lunch, there's a lighthouse, and benches. There's also a cute campsite if you go down the road, and if you wake up early enough, you can go next to the waterfront and watch the calm water and the sun rise behind the lighthouse at Village des Écluses.

It is closed and only opened for groups. It’s really too bad it was a Hudson staple and was unsuccessfully turned into a high end restaurant with continuous staff rotation it never had the pub feeling it used to have and we have lost a gem.
