The Rifasperre is a real classic in Montafon and a perfect stopover for touring cyclists and e-bikers. Located directly near Partenen, the Rifa balancing reservoir offers a powerful backdrop, crystal-clear water, steep mountain flanks, and plenty of altitude meters around it. The valley loop is mostly relaxed and also easily manageable with a trekking bike. Those looking for more power on the pedals can take the climb towards the Kops reservoir. There, challenging ramps, long switchbacks, and alpine views await – so your fitness and battery should be up to par. Another challenge is the route via Gargellen, with plenty of altitude meters and changing terrain. After the descent, the Rifasperre beckons for a breather. Important: In the Rifa European protected area, please stay on the trail, be considerate, and do not ride over nature. Keep your brakes ready and enjoy the tour.

The Rifawerk hydroelectric power plant is one of the numerous power plants operated by illwerke vkw AG in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg. The Rifawerk is located between Partenen and Gaschurn, next to the Rifa balancing reservoir, and was commissioned in 1969. In turbine operation, it uses the water from Kopswerk I and Vermuntwerk for energy generation. It then makes the water available to Kopswerk II via the Rifa reservoir. https://www.illwerkevkw.at/geschaeftsfelder/wasserkraft/pumpspeicherkraftwerke/rifawerk
