The Evangelical Lutheran Christ and Garrison Church was the first church built in the city of Wilhelmshaven. The foundation stone of the church was laid on June 17, 1869, the day the city was named, in the presence of King Wilhelm I of Prussia. The building was designed by Friedrich Adler and inaugurated on Pentecost 1872 under the name Elisabethkirche (after Queen Elisabeth, the widow of the late King Friedrich Wilhelm IV). The first bells were rung in March 1871 to mark peace after the Franco-Prussian War. A notable feature of the exterior of the neo-Gothic brick building is the tower (55 m) above the crossing (intersection of the nave and transept). The western part of the nave could have been extended by one or two bays to the west without great effort if necessary - according to the original option. (Source: Wikipedia)
