A pirate ship is being built here. Great work and a wonderful initiative by the people making it happen. The old one, which used to stand in the woods, was destroyed by idiots many years ago.

As we stood at the fountain, a passerby explained the story to us. A Hagen is a local word for a bull.

On May 22, 1910, a curious and tragic event occurred in Deißlingen that still shapes the local carnival celebrations today: In the bull stable, a breeding bull named Hagen was to have a nose ring inserted – common practice at the time for better control. But Hagen was anything but happy: With rolling eyes and flaring nostrils, he violently resisted the procedure. To immobilize him, his head was pulled through the feed store with a rope – a tricky but brutal method. When the blacksmith finally attached the ring and the rope was removed, Hagen collapsed: He was strangled, never producing offspring.

This sculpture invites you to take a short break. The story behind it is quite amusing.

There is little shade along the way, so bring enough to drink and sunscreen.
