February 6, 2025, Rinconada Trailhead

There is a big gravel lot at the trailhead and access to a network of dirt trails that wind their way up into the hills. Rinconada Mercury Mine is just west of the trailhead. The ruins have been heavily graffitied with brightly colored art and the mine opens up to a huge cave in the ground.

The views of the surrounding rolling hills and mixed use countryside are lovely from this road. Take care of other traffic whilst admiring the views.

This lake is popular with shaded areas for picnics and a 1 mile loop around the edge of the water. A great spot to take a break or cycle along the waters edge. Please be courteous of other path users around the lake.

James and Daniel Blackburn donated two blocks to the city for a public park to be used for the pleasure of its citizens and visitors. By original deed, the land was to revert to the donors if used for any other purpose than a public park. Two exceptions were made: allowing the building of the Carnegie Library, and the conversion of the library to a museum. The grounds were laid out by a Mr. Redington and a planting day was held when each citizen set out his own donation. Originally, the whole park was hedged in by a fence of cactus, and in 1890 a bandstand was built with money raised by private theatricals.

In summer the main attraction is the live music in the large beer garden. In winter it's mostly the warm wood stove and classic long bar in the historic Old West Saloon first opened in 1867, with hundreds of dollar bills on the ceiling. Check out the concert schedule at http://pozosaloon.com

Tasting Room mostly open on weekends (Sat/Sun 11-5). Great alternate place for a break next to the old Pozo Saloon and beer garden.
