February 22, 2024, Red Wall Climbing Access Bridge

This is a beautiful area with short stone-lined paths leading to benches in the forest and a wooden bridge crossing the stream. This makes for a wonderful place to rest or take in the scenery.

February 22, 2024, Upper Trailhead

There is ample parking, restrooms, and a picnic area here at the upper trailhead. You can keep driving up to the Lazy V trailhead if you want to get further into the mountains without adding distance to your run.

February 21, 2024, Elk Meadow Park

The park has a great variety of trails, between relatively flat and easy meadow paths to switchbacks up Bergen Peak through the forest. The trails also drain quite well and tend to not be too muddy after rain. The parking lot usually fills up by around 10 in the morning so arrive early!

Alta Vista Drive road passes right next to Gayno Reservoir giving you a great look. Keep your eyes peeled for any bird life that inhabits the area around the body of water.

Evergreen Lake offers a variety of activities. Recently the town of Evergreen installed a nicer sidewalk going along the lake and road. In the past cyclists had to ride on the narrow road, but now there is a wide multi-use path. The lake itself is great for paddleboarding, fishing, or there is the world's largest Zamboni-groomed outdoor ice rink in the winter.

Evergreen Memorial Park is a memorial to the pioneers of the area. This 100-acre park has a rustic barn often used for weddings, cabins, and amazing scenic views.

Black Mountain Drive is a quiet mountain road that is well paved and slightly off the main paths. Being that this road has smooth tarmac and not too many sharp turns, it's a great option if you want to look out for elk on the way up and super-tuck on the way down.

The hike up to Legault mountain is the longest and hardest hike in Meyer Ranch Park. It does leave the trail system and require some rough routing to find the summit. There are blue trail blazes on the trees leading the way, but take your time as the trail can be tricky to keep track of. As you climb steeply through the forest you can take a side trail that leads you to the base of the summit rock outcropping, but be sure to return to the trail in order to reach the summit. The trail gets steeper as you near the summit and the final pitch requires some easy scrambling onto the top of the outcrop.
