Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail (LOST)

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The 109-mile trail circumferences Lake Okeechobee and is part of the Florida Trail. It leads you mainly along the 35-foot-tall Herbert Hoover Dike built for flood control between the 1930s and 1960s. There is no shade except for the very few small gazebos used as campsites. I would recommend this section for night hiking.

October 28, 2025, John Stretch Park

Roughly ten miles east of Clewiston, John Stretch Park offers one of the most inviting rest spots along the southern rim of Lake Okeechobee. Shaded picnic tables, restrooms, and potable water make it a convenient break on a long, exposed stretch of trail. From its grassy banks, you’ll get a broad view of the lake and surrounding levee—a calm, open place to pause before continuing west.
