The abandoned Castle Hayn is located in the Wermsdorfer Forst near Wermsdorf. Today, only ramparts, ditches, and a few remnants of walls remain. The settlement probably dates back to the High or Late Middle Ages. It was likely a small castle or a fortified farmstead. Written sources about its builders are largely missing. Therefore, its origin and original function are not known with certainty. The name "wüst" here does not mean "destroyed", but "abandoned". The castle was thus given up a long time ago. Why this happened remains unclear to this day. Archaeological finds are limited to a few pottery shards. This leaves many questions about its history open. Numerous sagas and legends arose around the settlement.

At the bottom of the fountain's basin, four lion heads spout water, while atop the framework, a striding lion holds the Oschatz town coat of arms in its paws. Beautifully restored in 2001, the fountain dates back to 1589 and was created by the Leipzig stonemason Gregor Richter, modeled after the former Golden Fountain in Leipzig. https://www.brunnenturmfigur.de/index.php?cat=Brunnen%20und%20Wasserspiele%2Fin%20Sachsen%20und%20Sachsen-Anhalt&page=Oschatz%20und%20M%C3%BCgeln
