Originally, the house, first mentioned in documents in 1540, belonged to the Duchy of Berg as the Laach estate and was later referred to as the Broich (peat bog) estate. The name "Haus Schlagbaum" (House of the Barrier) is first recorded in 1643 and suggests a customs post. The house was situated on an old branch of the Rhine that silted up. The marshy waters bordered the park. At the end of the 18th century, the area was drained and placed under nature protection. Until then, one could travel by boat across the many ponds, pools, and streams to the neighboring Herl House. In the 1970s, the A3 motorway was built, reducing the park to a third of its original size. Before the expiration of a 25-year lease, the residents purchased the house, and it has not been a listed building since 1983.

The Sülztalbahn was built from 1890 onwards. The Immekeppel station was located directly opposite the then active ironworks in order to promote the local economy. Passenger traffic was then completely stopped in 1960 and freight traffic in 1966. The reception building and the immediately adjacent land were purchased by a freight forwarder and were listed as a historical monument in 1983.

After World War II, when the families of the soldiers of the Belgian occupation forces arrived, a school had to be built for their children. So a school was built here especially for them. With the departure of the last Belgian troops around the year 2000, the building remained empty for a while until it was renovated and became a Catholic primary school in 2006. Today, the building, characterized by its horseshoe shape, serves as a full-time school. The structure is not only a place of learning, but is also recognized as a historical monument, having been included in the list of monuments of Bergisch Gladbach.
