King Albert I wanted to establish a site on the battlefield of Waterloo in honor of peace, a monastery where one could pray for peace and the victims of deadly conflicts. Therefore, the Fichermont monastery was founded in 1927. In this monastery lived Sister Gabrielle "Soeur Sourire" ("The Singing Nun"), author of the hit "Dominique". Her song became a worldwide success and was number one on the American Billboard chart in 1963. After this media storm, the Dominican monastery had difficulty finding the necessary peace again. Today, the Musica Mundi School is located here, a boarding school for young musical talents.
