In the 10th century, King Harald Bluetooth had Denmark's baptismal certificate carved onto a runestone in Jelling and erected two large burial mounds. The Jelling Monuments have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1994. The year is 965. The Viking king Harald Bluetooth says goodbye to the Norse gods and yes to the Christian God. He had this event carved onto a large runestone in Jelling, near the stone his father Gorm the Old had erected a few years earlier. On the stone, Harald boasts that he conquered Denmark and Norway and converted the Danes to Christianity: "King Harald erected this memorial for Gorm, his father, and Thyra, his mother; Harald, who won all of Denmark and Norway and made the Danes Christians." The runestone is considered Denmark's baptismal certificate, and the Christ figure from the stone can be found in all Danish passports. Gorm the Old's somewhat smaller memorial stone for Queen Thyra bears the inscription: "King Gorm erected this memorial for his wife Thyra, Denmark's adornment." It is the oldest evidence of the name Denmark, which is why the runestone is also referred to as Denmark's name certificate. During his reign, Harald also had two enormous mounds and a huge enclosure, called the Palisade, erected at this site. https://www.visitvejle.de/vejle/reiseplanung/die-jelling-monumente-unesco-gdk607895

The Town Hall is a striking, historic landmark in the center of Vejle. The current neo-Gothic brick building was constructed between 1878 and 1879 according to the designs of architect Carl Lendorf and later restored by the famous architect Martin Nyrop. The current structure is already the fourth town hall in the city's history. The very first town hall from 1460 stood on Gammel Torv and burned down in 1530. It is located on a historically significant site where a Dominican monastery stood in the Middle Ages. A special feature is the town hall bell, which rings daily. It is the same bell that, in the Middle Ages, called the monks of the monastery to mass. It bears a Latin inscription, translated as: "I call the living, I awaken the dead." On the first floor of the town hall is the city council's meeting room. Furthermore, due to its elegant halls and romantic ambiance, the building is an extremely popular venue for civil weddings. The building is located directly on the city's lively pedestrian zone on Town Hall Square. Directly in front of the main entrance is a flat, ground-level water fountain, which serves as a meeting point, especially in summer. https://www.visitvejle.de/vejle/reiseplanung/das-rathaus-von-vejle-gdk607929

The 1.7-kilometer-long motorway bridge offers a magnificent view of the Vejlefjord, the town center, and the striking wave-shaped buildings known as "Bølgen." A stop at the viewpoints in Bredballe is particularly worthwhile to admire the architecture and the vastness of the fjord. It's a great spot for photos and a perfect place for a short break during an extended bike ride or hike along the east coast of Jutland.
