Hotel Koldingfjord is a hotel and conference center on the north side of Kolding Fjord near Kolding. The buildings were originally built as a sanatorium for children suffering from tuberculosis. The buildings were built between 1906 and 1911. Treatment of children with tuberculosis continued until 1960. At this point there was no longer any need as Denmark had gradually eradicated the disease. The buildings were taken over by Vejle County and converted into a treatment center for mentally handicapped children. In 1983 this facility was closed and the buildings remained empty until the municipality of Kolding sold the buildings to the Isleff construction company in 1987. The company renovated the listed Rococo and Renaissance building and the hotel was inaugurated in 1990.

The car park is the starting point for hikes in the beautiful nature of Houens Odde. In 1947 the KFUM scouts bought the outermost part of Houens Odde for the modest sum of DKK 30,000 (approx. €4,000). Since then, the scouts have bought land on the Houens Odde several times. It was not until 1999 that the scouts bought the last part and have owned the entire Houens Odde ever since. Initially, local scouts used the place for trips in harmony with nature. Here the young scouts could frolic in "undiscovered" country. After many difficulties, Gilwellhytten, the site's first permanent building, was dedicated in 1953. The construction of the hut could only be realized by the many volunteers. Since then, other buildings have been added, and today Houens Odde consists of inspiring meeting rooms, primitive huts, cozy dining rooms and inviting facilities for accommodation and conferences. Source: www.houensodde.dk Although Houens Odde is privately owned, there is public access on foot. By far the largest part of Houens Odde appears as untouched nature. A visit to Houens Odde and hiking on the many hiking trails is always worthwhile.
