This multifunctional complex is a great example of how former production facilities can be adapted Another example of how an old, gigantic post-industrial facility can be turned into a modern, multifunctional sports and cultural complex is Trojhalí Karolina. The area of huge halls full of iron and masonry once served as the back-up facilities for the Karolina Mine and the local coking plant. Nowadays, you can play badminton, indoor football and go to a concert, which in a hall from the mid-19th century is a great experience with an unusual atmosphere. Trojhalí managed to be saved, today it creates a specific color of Ostrava, but the old Karolina coking plant was demolished in the late 1980s. Today, the modern Forum Nová Karolina shopping center is located in its place. This complex connects the center of Ostrava with the industrial Vítkovice Lower Area. severnimorava.travel/en/zazitky/trojhali-karolina-in-ostrava

The Slezská Ostrava Town Hall (Slezskoostravská radnice) in the center of the city of Ostrava is one of the city's landmarks. It is located on the right bank of the Ostravice, below the confluence of the Lučina, at the address Těšínská 138. The community building, which was rebuilt in neo-baroque style in 1897, was no longer sufficient for representative purposes. That is why the construction of the new town hall was decided under the leadership of Mayor Jan Poppe. It was built on a plot of land next to the old town hall in Zámostí. The city held an architectural competition for the town hall in early 1910. Third place went to a project by Antonín Papež in the classicism style, the second was the proposal by the architect Viktorin Šulc from Pilsen. His project "Hanna" was kept in the form of the historicizing architectural style. The construction of the new town hall took place in 1911–1913 according to modified plans, in which, in addition to Šulc, the head of the building department at the municipal office Jaroslav Volenec, his assistant František Doležel and the builder Julius Vysloužil took part. The design of the town hall is a combination of neo-renaissance forms with other historical architectural styles. There are also elements of Art Nouveau here, especially inside. The main staircase to the first floor and the hall there are typical examples. The valuable parts include the plate inscriptions in the entrance stairs, the main staircase with lighting fixtures and, above all, the representation hall with richly decorated chandeliers. Although the town hall was not a revolutionary architectural work, its exterior and scale formed a picturesque and correspondingly balanced unit with the surrounding houses. Around 1950 subsidence appeared as an impact of the coal mining in the whole area. The urban planning intention to lead a north-south main road below the town hall on the right bank of the Ostravice also contributed to the destruction of the fairly new development in Zámostí. This resulted in a redesign of this part of Slezská Ostrava. (Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rathaus_(Slezsk%C3%A1_Ostrava))

The Cathedral of the Divine Savior (Katedrála Božského Spasitele in Czech) in the Moravian city of Ostrava is the episcopal cathedral of the Roman Catholic diocese of Ostrava-Troppau. The co-cathedral is the Assumption Church in Opava. The former village of Mährisch Ostrau grew into an industrial city in the last third of the 19th century due to the coal mining industry. The only church of St. Wenceslas until the 1870s was no longer sufficient. Between 1883 and 1889 the new parish church of the Divine Redeemer was built. Based on designs by Gustav Meretta and Max von Ferstel, a representative three-aisled basilica was built in the neo-renaissance style. The semicircular main apse and two side apses adjoin the seven-bay nave in the southeast, and the portal facade with the two 67 m high towers in the northwest. The interior is framed in white, coffered and structured with pillars with front half-columns and horizontal beams. The economical equipment takes a back seat to the clear spatial effect. With the establishment of the Ostrava-Troppau diocese by Pope John Paul II in 1996, the Church of the Redeemer was elevated to the status of a cathedral. In 1998 she received a new organ. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathedrale_zum_G%C3%B6ttlichen_Erl%C3%B6ser_(Ostrava)

The Silesian Ostrava Castle is a castle in Ostrava in the northeast of the Czech Republic. It was originally built in the 1280s near the confluence of the Lučina and Ostravice rivers. The castle was built for military purposes due to its proximity to the Polish border. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silesian_Ostrava_Castle

Wikipedia: A landmark of the city is the Moravská Ostrava Town Hall, which opened in 1930 and is now the headquarters of the Ostrava City Council. From its 75-meter-high, square, glass tower, a panoramic view of almost the entire city is possible.
