The town, together with the Castle, lies in the foothills of the Orlicky Mountains and is located not far from the so-called "Zemskaya Branka" - a ferry to neighboring Poland, where the trade route led from ancient times. The history of the castle begins in 1501, the foundation of which was laid by Janem Černčickým from Kácova in the form of a late Gothic castle. Over the course of half a century, the castle was rebuilt and expanded. Later, the Castle underwent an extensive Baroque renovation under the direction of Walter Leslie. This happened in the second half of the thirties of the 17th century. The current appearance of the castle and the garden is the result of the reconstruction of 1909-1912, which was carried out for the Barton family by the outstanding architect Dušan Jurkovič. And a few more words about the Castle Park. The castle garden in its current form is also the work of Yurkovich. The once completely abandoned and ugly courtyard just beyond the northern tract has been turned into a beautiful park overlooking the valley. The terraces were built and equipped with white railings. The space behind the trail has been converted into a French garden. In addition to the architectural changes, he designed a heated greenhouse and water supply system, fed from the Metuje River and intended for irrigation, to supply fountains and other water features. The upper part, in the immediate vicinity of the castle building, was divided by terraces with flower beds and wooden fences.
