Just a few meters after starting the 4th stage of the Ahrsteig, I had my first contact with the Ahr River. It was in the form of a memorial commemorating the terrible flood disaster 🌊 of 2021. Right behind it is the slow and peacefully flowing Ahr River. I saw aquatic plants swaying gently in the gentle current and lively trout. It's hard to imagine that this seemingly peaceful river devastated the valley back then, destroyed livelihoods, and claimed so many lives... 😰

Directly at Brückenstraße 4, at the corner of Zehntpöschweg, stands Insul's oldest house – the former Zehnthof. It's a truly beautiful old half-timbered house with an entire courtyard complex. The building's origins date back to 1560. Particularly striking is the gable, which was added later and, with its rather elaborate design for the time, demonstrates how important this house once was.

You could almost walk right past him. But when you see him, pause for a moment and remember the victims of that night, which shocked all of Germany.
