Please note that this bike/MTB highlight is off the official cycle path network. In the national park, cycling is only permitted on the paths that have been approved for this purpose, in order to protect the sensitive habitats of animals and plants and to avoid conflicts between user groups. Therefore I ask you to explore this highlight only on foot. Currently, according to the 1992 regulation and the 2012 amendment, cycling is only allowed on the following roads: 1. Hirschbichlstraße (state road 2099) and from the Bindalm bus stop to the alpine huts on the Bindalm; 2. Eiskar forest road to the fork in the path to the Schartennalm; 3. Eckau-Forststraße to Eckau-Alm with turnoff to the Schwarzederer-Wendeplatte; 4. Schappachstraße and Hammerstielstraße to Kühroint - turning point in front of the Archenkanzel - and forest road to Herrenroint; 5. Gotzenstraße and Hochbahnweg to Gotzenalm and access to the Stahlhaus; 6. Ligeretstrasse. The supplement to approved cycle paths from 2012 is in the Official Journal for the district of Berchtesgadener Land No. 20 from 05/15/2012 on page 127ff. (https://www.lra-bgl.de/t/das-landratsamt/amtsblaetter/). The ordinance is based on Art. 31 Para. 1 and Art. 43 Para. 2 No. 3 of the Bavarian Nature Conservation Act (BayNatSchG). We would be very grateful for your help to protect nature! If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. https://www.nationalpark-berchtesgaden.de/

Here you can see beautifully how nature manages to spread out in the smallest of spaces. A tree that grows up on a boulder in the Hintersee.

The most popular lakes are Lake Königssee, known for its fjord-like appearance and emerald waters, and Hintersee east shore, a beautifully situated mountain lake ideal for walks. Both offer stunning natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
Yes, both Lake Königssee and Hintersee east shore are considered family-friendly. Königssee offers boat tours to sights like St. Bartholomew Pilgrimage Church, while Hintersee is perfect for leisurely circular walks and exploring the 'Zauberwald' (Enchanted Forest).
You'll encounter dramatic landscapes, such as the steeply rising rock faces plunging into Lake Königssee, which is nestled within the Berchtesgaden National Park. Hintersee is framed by mountain peaks and surrounded by the mystical 'Zauberwald' with ancient trees and boulders. Both offer crystal-clear waters and lush forest environments.
For easy walks, the circular path around Hintersee east shore is highly recommended. At Königssee, an easy route leads to the View of the Königssee from the Malerwinkel, offering magnificent views. For more options, you can explore easy hikes around Bischofswiesen.
While Königssee is primarily for boat tours and environmental protection, Naturbad Aschauerweiher, located directly in Bischofswiesen, is a man-made bathing lake offering a convenient option for swimming and relaxation on warm days. Frillensee, though a bit further, also provides a refreshing natural environment.
To avoid the largest crowds, especially at Lake Königssee, it is advisable to visit outside of peak season or on weekdays. Weekends and holidays can see significant numbers of tourists, leading to long queues for boat trips.
Absolutely! The View of the Königssee from the Malerwinkel on the north shore of Königssee is a popular vantage point for breathtaking photos. The circular path around Hintersee east shore also offers numerous scenic spots framed by mountains and the 'Zauberwald'.
Beyond hiking, the region offers various outdoor activities. You can find mountain hikes and road cycling routes around Bischofswiesen. At Hintersee, rowboats can be rented for a peaceful experience on the water.

Lake Königssee is unique for its fjord-like appearance, with dramatic rock faces plunging directly into its emerald-green waters. It's located within the Berchtesgaden National Park, and only electric-powered or rowing boats are permitted to preserve its pristine environment, offering a tranquil and unforgettable experience.
Beyond the popular Königssee and Hintersee, Taubensee is easily accessible from Bischofswiesen for a quick excursion. Frillensee, located in Inzell, also offers a refreshing natural environment, though it's a bit further afield.
