Wetter Castle ruins stand majestically on a hill overlooking Lake Harkort and are among the most historically significant castles in the Ruhr Valley. Their origins date back to the 13th century, when they were built by the Counts of the Mark as a fortified residence. Parts of the medieval structure are still visible today – including the keep, remains of residential buildings, and sections of the curtain wall. Over the centuries, the castle experienced turbulent times: During the Soest Feud (1444–1449), it was besieged and severely damaged. From the 18th century onward, it fell into increasing disrepair until it took on a surprising new role in the 19th century. In 1819, Friedrich Harkort, one of the pioneers of industrialization in the Ruhr region, established one of the region's first machine factories in the ruins – a milestone in early industrial history. Today, the castle ruins are a popular hiking destination with impressive views of Lake Harkort and the Ruhr Valley. Visitors appreciate the blend of nature, history, and panoramic views. Currently, construction work is causing temporary road closures, but the site remains an atmospheric highlight and an ideal place to tell the story of Wetter's development from a medieval castle settlement to an industrial town. https://hagenentdecken.de/kulturntdecken/sehenswuerdigkeitenwahrzeichen/

Hohenlimburg Castle is the only hilltop castle in Westphalia that has largely been preserved in its original medieval condition. Located on the Schlossberg in Hohenlimburg in North Rhine-Westphalia, the ensemble of town and castle is also called the Westphalian Heidelberg because of its picturesque location. In 1975 the city of Hohenlimburg was incorporated into the city of Hagen.

Around 1250/74 it was taken over by Count Adolf III. built by the Mark and besieged in 1444-1449 by Cologne and Bohemian units as part of the Soest feud. In the 18th century it begins to deteriorate. In 1815 Friedrich Harkort set up a machine factory in the ruins.

Burg Wetter is the ruins of a medieval hilltop castle that was built in the 13th century. A special feature of the castle is that it was used as part of a factory in the 19th century. In the vacant castle, Friedrich Harkort and Heinrich Kamp founded the mechanical workshops Harkort & Co. in 1819, one of the first mechanical engineering companies in the Ruhr area.

Only a few foundation walls and the foundations of the three towers, one of which still rises a few meters in height, remain today. The entire complex has a park-like character and is used for various events. A hiking trail leads around the castle hill through the forest and down to the Ruhr. The ruin offers the viewer a unique view of the Ruhr, the city of Wetter, Lake Harkort and the Ardey Mountains.
