Fire Wave

Highlight • Natural Monument

Fire Wave is a structure of striped sandstone. The wave like shape is a result of erosion from wind and water over the last 150 million years. The unique colors or "stripes" come from oxidation of iron and manganese contained in the rock.

White Domes Slot Canyon

Highlight • Canyon

The only true and narrow slot canyon in the Valley of Fire. Located on the White Domes Trail.

I included it as a short detour on the Seven Wonders Loop, as the short round trip is definitely worth it. The slot canyon is a short but impressive narrow passage and also a photographic display of colors.

Note: May 15 to October 1, 2025, and likely every year thereafter.
Seasonal closure due to heat:
Fire Wave, Seven Wonders Loop, Pastel Canyon Prospect, Arrowhead, Pinnacles, White Domes, Charlie Springs, and Natural Arches Trails.

Crazy Hill

Highlight • Natural Monument

Crazy Hill is on the right side of the trail. Which one it really is, is probably left to the beholder, which he finds the craziest.

It is possible to walk the seven wonders trail, the fire wave and the white domes trail in a approx. 5km double-o loop. Highly recommended, but bring water.

Pmbvw already mentioned the intended location of this highlight. It is a rather small mound or hill with amazing, colored sandstone patterns. Beautiful! Please look carefully, you may easily miss this highlight!

Starting from the parking lot I recommend to walk south first and return via the white domes trail uphill. Deep sand and a steeper decline make the scramble up to the parking lot harder in the end if you walk counterclockwise. Please don't underestimate the heat!
