Very nice waterfall. Difficult to reach because of many fallen trees.

The nature reserve is in two parts with a total size of 42ha and was designated in 1980. Part 1 Edenbach Gorge around 5.2ha Part 2 Wieslaufschlucht around 36.8ha Brief description: Deeply cut gorges with natural geological outcrops and rock formations as impressive geological phenomena and as natural habitats for the flora and fauna indigenous to the Keupklingen; Bannwald (LWaldG § 32). Extract of appreciation: It is obvious that in this barely accessible gorge, which was only recently made accessible by a path created by the Welzheim Forestry Office, a near-natural gorge forest with sycamore maple, mountain elm, ash, silver fir, etc. has been preserved. Many floristic peculiarities can be found here, such as the magnificent forest goat's beard and, particularly precious, the alpine / subalpine white butterbur (Petasites albus), which appears in early spring, alongside many fern and moss species. Notable birds include: to name the dipper and the gray wagtail.

Very nice, adventurous hiking trail. Absolutely to recommend. Imposing rock formation. Descent is easily accessible for everyone with ropes and chains on the steep stairs. We were there in bad weather (rain), it was a bit slippery and muddy, but deserted. ;-) Sturdy shoes are recommended.

It is imperative that you wear sturdy shoes and not go hiking there after rainy days. The ground is very muddy and we had to turn around in places as it gets really dangerous in places

Yes, several waterfalls in the Welzheim area are suitable for families. The Front Hörschbach Waterfall and Rear Hörschbach Waterfall are both marked as family-friendly. The Strümpfelbach Valley Nature Reserve, which features many small waterfalls, is also a great option for children. The Forellensprung is also ideal for families seeking a peaceful outing.
Good, sturdy footwear is highly recommended, especially when exploring areas like the Wieslauf Gorge or the Hörschbach Gorge. Paths can be narrow, slippery, and muddy, particularly after rain or in winter. For instance, accessing the Glasklinge involves an approximately 80-meter descent via an inconspicuous footpath, requiring good shoes.
The waterfalls are beautiful year-round. In winter, the Front Hörschbach Waterfall can be partly or completely frozen, offering a unique sight. However, paths can be very slippery and muddy during colder, wetter months, so exercise caution. Spring and autumn offer lush scenery and comfortable hiking temperatures.
Yes, the Forellensprung (Trout Leap) and Glasklinge are considered hidden gems. Located deep within the forest between Rudersberg and Welzheim, they offer a serene environment and are often quieter than other waterfalls in the region. The area features numerous small waterfalls and impressive rock formations, creating a mystical atmosphere.
Absolutely. A popular loop encompasses both the Glasklinge and Forellensprung, covering about 6 kilometers. Another option is the "Klingenmühle Waterfall – Wieslauf Gorge Waterfall loop," which is approximately 13.4 km long and integrates the historic Klingenmühle with the scenic Wieslauf Gorge. You can find more hiking routes in the Hiking around Welzheim guide.
The region is rich in natural beauty. You'll encounter deep gorges like the Wieslauf Gorge and Hörschbach Gorge, dense forests, and unique rock formations, especially around the Forellensprung and Glasklinge. The Strümpfelbach Valley Nature Reserve is known for its charming forest valley with watercourses and springs.
Yes, the Klingenmühle Waterfall is part of a popular hiking loop that includes the historic Klingenmühle, an old mill nestled in the Wieslauf Gorge. The Geo-Adventure Trail also leads past this site, combining natural beauty with historical interest.
A hike through the Wieslauf Gorge, featuring the Wieslauf Gorge Waterfall, is considered adventurous. It involves narrow, sometimes slippery paths that can run directly alongside steep cliffs. Good footwear and sure-footedness are essential for this challenging experience.
Near the Hörschbach waterfalls, there is a "waterfall restaurant" that can be a convenient stop during your hike. This is mentioned in tips for the Front Hörschbach Waterfall, located where the waterfall road meets the stop.

The Hörschbach waterfalls are known for their unique features. The Rear Hörschbach Waterfall has an automatic water lock that ensures a strong flow, even when stream levels are low. The Front Hörschbach Waterfall drops about 5 meters over a compact Steinmergelbank, and its softer underlying layers contribute to its formation. Both are popular for their scenic beauty and the opportunity to see them partly or completely frozen in winter.
Hiking times vary depending on the specific waterfall and chosen route. For example, the loop encompassing the Glasklinge and Forellensprung is about 6 kilometers long, which can take a couple of hours. The "Klingenmühle Waterfall – Wieslauf Gorge Waterfall loop" is longer, at approximately 13.4 km, requiring more time.
