The south fork of the Wabash Cannonball Trail runs between Monclova and Liberty Center in Northern Ohio. Along the way it passes through Whitehouse and by open fields and tree lined corridors. The trail is part of the Rails to Trails program and is generally flat and easy to ride. Riders can easily do this as a one way or out and back trip in a single day.

Generals Ice Cream is in the middle of Whitehouse and right next to Whitehouse park. This location make it a great place for people on the Wabash Cannonball Trail to stop for a break. There is outdoor seating at Generals, or you can take your ice cream to the park and enjoy it while looking over the lake.

Oak Openings Preserve is the kind of place you can lose yourself in for a weekend, and then spend the rest of the year thinking about. There are miles of hiking, biking, and horse riding trails. You can visit in the winter for cross-country skiing, there are multiple campgrounds and cabins to stay in. You can even stay in the country's only public treehouse village! Then there are the dozens of bird species and other wildlife that call the park home. If you're in the Toledo area, visiting Oak Openings is a must!

If you want to extend your hike, Bend View Metropark is four miles from here along this route, with an exceptional overlook boasting panoramic views of the Maumee River.
