The Stettin Gate (also called Blindower Gate) is part of the medieval defensive structure of the city of Prenzlau. It was built in the 13th century as an originally square defensive tower with battlements (still recognizable today in the middle of the tower). Due to the introduction of firearms, it became necessary to increase the height of city walls and towers. The Stettin Gate tower was increased in a round shape in the 14th/15th century to offer as few targets as possible for enemy fire.

The paved path is also easy to ride on a road bike. It's a nice, undulating route.

The church was built in the 13th century and has remained a ruin since its destruction in 1440.

An incredibly solid masonry of precisely hewn fieldstones characterizes this fairly well-preserved ruin. Considering that it has remained in this condition since 1440, this is also quite astonishing. The original church was built in the mid-13th century and fell victim to a major war. Lychen was conquered in the Pomeranian-Brandenburg War (1329-1333).

The bike path is next to the road, but at a slightly higher elevation. This means a beautiful view of the water. Great!

Germany's only floodplain national park protects one of the few virtually intact floodplains in Europe. The diverse landscape types found in and around this floodplain create a uniquely high biodiversity of flora and fauna. The flat Oder Valley, with meadows and sparse trees, is framed by hilly forests and steep slopes. A treat for the eye and the sense of discovery. Motorized traffic is prohibited in most of the Lower Oder Valley National Park.
