It is a sandstone formation from the Rotliegend, the last phase of the Earth's ancient history from 296 - 251 million years ago. Sandstone forms from sediment layers at the bottom of rivers, which solidify under high pressure and over a long period. Sandstone formations differ by inclusions, e.g. iron veins. Sandstone without marl inclusions was sought after as a very stable building material.

From this point you have wonderful panoramic views. There are several (stone) rest areas and a wellness bench. There is also the stone sculpture "Lebensscheibe" (Disc of Life) by the artist Peter Brauchle from 2011.

Great adventurous gorge. Some places are a bit tricky, but worth a visit.

This hut and the tunnel can be found when you cycle down the hiking trail from PVH Hütte Eulenbis towards Erzenhausen. Be careful, there are some steep slopes where you have to brake a lot. And lots of tracks from forestry and tractors. So be careful when cycling down
