We first hiked to our overnight accommodation, the Kemptner Hut in Spielmannsau, and there we deposited everything from our backpacks except for food and drink. A few kilos lighter, we then headed for the big Krottenkopf. The climb is sweaty 🥵 and you should have enough water with you. We refilled our bottles at a stream that came from the mountain. The water was delicious and easy to digest 😋. It goes up many bends until the path finally turns into a scree field. There it was a bit confusing where the hiking trail continued. Shortly before the last climb we took a break. And we also left our backpacks behind us at the fork in the road. The magnificent view 🔭👀 is worth the effort of the climb 👍🏼

Super panoramic mountain, you have almost all the dream mountains around you (Höfats, Trettachspitze, Großer Wilder, in the distance "Hoher Ifen", Säntis, etc. You can even see Lake Constance in foehn weather, definitely a great panorama. Really surprised me. How Dirk I am up on the east side, a good decision, as the short descent requires surefootedness, as it is very steep and the ground is not always reliable. You can therefore hold on to the ascent. @Dirk: Respect, at 62 I'm probably not as fit as you^^

Great view. The ascent from the Putzenjoch is tedious, as there is only scree on the grassy slope, but the view from the top is always worth it. Arriving back at the Putzenjoch you can admire the committed serpetines again 🙃. You can also climb up from the Anhalter Hütte, but I don't know this path, but it doesn't look too difficult from above.

early climb recommended in summer - the heat tends to build up on the climb and the mix with brakes is never great then

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some of the most rewarding mountain peaks to climb around Häselgehr?

For a truly rewarding experience, consider Bretterspitze (2608 m), a prominent peak in the Hornbach chain offering a magnificent panorama. The ascent typically takes 4 to 5 hours and requires sure-footedness and alpine experience, with some sections secured by ropes. Another excellent choice is Großer Krottenkopf, the highest peak in the Allgäu Alps, which rewards climbers with a wonderful panoramic view where marmots can often be observed.

Are there any less-trafficked mountain peaks near Häselgehr for solitude?

Yes, for those seeking solitude and unspoiled nature, Seitekopf (approx. 2337 m - 2344 m) in the Lechtal Alps is an excellent choice. The route from Gramais is consistently steep but generally technically easy, offering a magnificent and expansive panorama. It's known as a quieter peak, ideal for a peaceful experience.

Which mountain peaks offer the best panoramic views in the Häselgehr area?

Many peaks around Häselgehr boast stunning views. Laufbacher Eck, at 2,178 meters, provides a great all-round view and is a popular rest stop. Lichtspitze (2356 m / 2357 m), often called Häselgehr's 'Hausberg', offers impressive views across the Lechtal and Allgäu Alps, marked by a striking steel helmet on its summit cross.

What are some challenging climbs for experienced mountaineers near Häselgehr?

Experienced mountaineers looking for a challenge can tackle the Hintere Jungfrauenspitze (2390 m / 2395 m), the highest of the 'Drei Jungfrauen' peaks. The final section to the summit requires climbing of UIAA difficulty I-II, and while there's a steel rope, climbers should ideally be able to ascend without full reliance on it. Another challenging option is Namloser Wetterspitze (2,533 m), which offers a great view after about 1100 vertical meters.

Are there any more accessible mountain viewpoints for a quicker trip?

Yes, Lachenkopf (1945 m / 2111 m) is a well-regarded viewing point that can be reached in about an hour from the mountain station of the Jöchelspitze Chairlift, making it a more accessible option for a stunning vista without a full-day ascent.

What kind of terrain can I expect on mountain trails around Häselgehr?

The mountain trails around Häselgehr offer diverse terrain. You can expect everything from demanding hikes with consistent steep sections, like the route to Seitekopf, to alpine paths involving scrambling towards the top, as seen on Steinspitze. Some routes, like Lichtspitze, feature exposed passages secured with wire ropes, requiring sure-footedness and a head for heights.

Where can I find refreshments or accommodation during a multi-day mountain tour?

For refreshments and overnight stays, Memminger Hut is an excellent choice. It's located in a prominent position surrounded by turquoise cirque lakes, offering regional food, homemade cakes, and options for overnight stays. The Hermann-von-Barth Hut and Kemptener Hut are also available for refreshment and accommodation on longer tours, particularly when approaching Großer Krottenkopf.

What outdoor activities can I do near the mountain peaks around Häselgehr?

Beyond peak bagging, the region offers a variety of outdoor activities. You can explore numerous hiking trails, including waterfall hikes like the Doser Waterfall loop, or more extensive mountain hikes. For cyclists, there are routes such as the Lech Cycle Path. Many appreciate the diverse terrain, from challenging alpine climbs to rewarding hikes. The opportunity to observe wildlife, such as marmots near Großer Krottenkopf, and the hospitality of mountain huts like Memminger Hut, are also highly valued.

Are there any specific tips for hiking the more difficult peaks?

For more difficult peaks like Bretterspitze or Hintere Jungfrauenspitze, it's crucial to have sure-footedness, a head for heights, and alpine experience. Some sections may require easy climbing or involve exposed passages secured with ropes. Always check current conditions, start early, and consider bringing hiking poles for stability on descents, especially on routes like the one to Kegelkopf Summit.

When is the best time to visit the mountain peaks around Häselgehr?

The best time for hiking and mountaineering around Häselgehr is typically from late spring to early autumn. During these months, the weather is generally more stable, and trails are free of snow, making ascents safer and more enjoyable. However, always check the local weather forecast before heading out, as alpine conditions can change rapidly.
