We're familiar with game reserves, hunting lodges with established hunting trails, pig farms, etc., but the Rieseneck hunting ground goes far beyond that: As early as the second half of the 16th century, hunting stands (so-called hunting screens) and walkways (stalking paths) were built here, i.e., paths sunk into the ground so that hunters could move around unnoticed by game. Between 1712 and 1727, these were then rebuilt in stone and partially relocated underground.

The bench is beautiful; the view of the Herzogstuhl is only partially visible because it's obscured by trees; even in winter, it won't be much better. Still, a beautiful spot. 😀
