The Princely City of Celje in Slovenia offers archaeological treasures, a modern urban flair, and bears the "Slovenia Green" environmental quality label (for a green future). Traces of the first settlement date back to the Iron Age. The present-day city was known to the Romans as Celeia. In the Middle Ages, it grew into a market town. Ultimately, one of the most powerful noble families in all of Europe – the Counts of Celje – significantly shaped the city's interior. The buildings and the Old Town of Celje are closely connected to the green surroundings. This atmosphere makes Celje an ideal place to relax in addition to sightseeing. Visit Celje Castle in Slovenia's third-largest city – after Ljubljana and Maribor. From here, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the region.

The trail runs directly along the lake, over wooden boardwalks, beautifully landscaped gravel paths, and across the floating bridge, sometimes shaded, sometimes in full sun, is truly beautiful. The hike around the lake is rather modest, as the road portion is estimated at over 90%. No, this isn't nature-based hiking; that's life-threatening. Conclusion: Stay by the lake, walk, swim, and drink coffee. Thumbs up for that. Frank Häfner, August 20, 2025
