Planika Hut below Triglav

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Very quaint cottage just below the Triglav peak.

There is no drinking water at this hut. Also no possibility to wash or similar. Water for drinking/brushing teeth/washing hands can only be bought in plastic bottles, during our visit to 6€ for 1.5L. If possible, you should carry a little more water up here than you would otherwise take with you.

Koča pod Bogatinom Mountain Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Koča pod Bogatin is located in a vast basin with Na Kraju mountain, which has a central location at the transition from Spodnja to Lepo Komna. The hut was built by the Bohinj branch of the SPD on the foundations of a former Austrian military hospital, where wounded soldiers were treated during the battles on Krno in the First World War. The hut was opened on August 7, 1932. On the hill next to the hut, a pyramid was built from natural stone blocks in memory of the dead soldiers who are buried here. After liberation, the cottage was taken over by the PD Bohinj-Srednja vas, which renovated and opened it at the beginning of March 1947. Electricity was installed in 1951, and in 1959 the cottage was renovated and its capacity increased. Later, the cottage was renovated several times and gradually better equipment was installed, and in 1981 it was thoroughly renovated. Also in 1991 and 1992, it was renovated again and the interior was improved.

View: The Komne plateau is surrounded by high mountains like an amphitheater. Therefore, we have a beautiful view of the mountains and peaks around the plateau. On the eastern side, we see Dom na Komna on the edge of the plateau; in the south they hug the Spodnja Bohinjska gora plateau, we can see the peaks of Podrta gora, Tolminski Kuk, Mahavšček (Velike Bogatin) and Bogatin; on the western side north of Bogatin is the Vratca pass (Bogatinsko sedlo), in front of it the Gracija valley, and above it Srednji vrh from the Lanževica massif; the view to the north is obscured by the nearby edge above the mountain Na Kraju, through which the path leads to the Valley of the Triglav Lakes.

Vodnik Hut at Velo Polje (1817 m)

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The lodge stands on a small terrace at the foot of the western slope of Tosca just above Veli polje. The first wooden hut was built by the Radovljica branch of the SPD. In memory of the 100th anniversary of the ascent of the Slovene poet Valentin Vodnik (1758-1819) to Mali Triglav, on August 20, 1795, it was named Vodnikova koča; the grand opening was on August 19, 1895, and the cottage was operated by the SPD. In 1909, the hut was torn down, moved to its present location, enlarged and lined with wood. The hut was repaired several times, but it was slowly decaying. After the Second World War, it was taken over by PD Bohinj-Srednja vas. Due to the dilapidation of the hut and the increasing number of visitors, they decided to build a new outpost. It was built between 1954 and 1958 and inaugurated on August 31, 1958; at the opening it was renamed Vodnikov dom. Later, the home was repaired and the interior decorated several times, and a major renovation was carried out in 1986, when the stone facade was also covered with shingles. The home is open from mid-June to late September.

View:

From the home there is a very nice view of Triglav and the surrounding peaks. On the east side of the home rise the western slopes of Tosca; on the south and west side lies Velo polje, which is bordered on the south by the peaks of the Fužine mountains Mali, Jezerski and Prevalski Stog, and on the west side by the characteristic Mišelj peak; in the northwest we have a beautiful view of Šmarjetna glava and Triglav; on the plateau below Triglav we see Dom Planika, to the right of Mali Triglav the Triglavski dom on Kredarica; north of the hut rises Vernar near.

Bravnjek Wooden Shelter

Highlight • Mountain Hut

This is a nice wooden shack with a couple of benches where you can sit down in shade, rest and relax, and start wondering what is this place actually: an open-air library, a playground for children, a bike stop, all of the above, or something else. None of which is covered by the term "Stempelhuette", and you would look in vain for something with which you could stamp anything. The original Slovenian name of the shed is "Bravnjek", definitely an unusual and somewhat funny neologism, which apparently wants to convey the idea of a place where one can/should read. If you continue on in the direction of Lake Bohinj, there will be a "ranch" on your left with some llamas, on top of a steeper ascent (10%) you must really look hard on your right to find a footpath to local climbing crag called Peč, and some couple of hundred meters on, you will pass by a spring where you definitely should stop and taste the cool, delicious mountain water and fill up your flasks or bidons with it.

On the way to Kredarica, refill your water about halfway up, it might be your last chance before reaching the hut.
