very impressive, but you have to be patient to take a photo like this.

This small but interesting bridge is definitely not dangerous, except perhaps for the most foolhardy. Actually, it's quite sturdy. However, the handrails are indeed a bit low (maybe about one meter high), so very tall people must almost crouch to hold on to them when crossing - or bravely trust their sense of balance without this support.

One of the nicest hikes in Bohinj. Normaly, you start from a large parking place just outside Stara Fuzina and then choose from two options: either you walk on the road, or you take the trail by Mostnica creek. Both will take you by Dom na Vojah (nice inn), and eventually to Voje/Mostnica Fall. Unless you have enough time and feel rather strong and adventurous (but it better be justifiably), you should just walk back the same way.

The waterfall is actually located on a partly very steep and blocked mountain hiking trail. On my MTB tour, Komoot planned this path as a downhill section. However, it is definitely not rideable with a MTB as it is very blocked, has lots of roots and a gradient of up to 38%. On my tour here, I had to push the MTB down 300 meters and sometimes even carry it down. So it's better not to "ride" the MTB here - hiking is definitely much more fun here.

Even though the sign says "at your own risk", just be careful not to fall on the two broken planks at the beginning and towards the end. I advise not to take videos while crossing. I did and I risked hitting the broken plank..

The most popular natural attractions include the Mostnica Gorge, known for its 8-kilometer hiking trail and emerald green water, and the iconic Savica Waterfall, famous for its unique 'A' shape and 78-meter main cascade. Visitors also appreciate the roaring waters of the Source of the Bohinjka (Izvir Bohinjske Bistrice).
The waterfalls are impressive year-round, but late spring and early summer are particularly spectacular. During this period, melting snow in the Julian Alps ensures the highest water flow, making cascades like the Savica Waterfall especially powerful.
Yes, the Mostnica Gorge offers a generally easy to moderate hike suitable for families, though some sections can have steep drops requiring vigilance with small children. The Grmečica Falls is also considered family-friendly.
The Savica Waterfall is easily accessible by car or public transport to a large car park. From there, it's about a 15-20 minute uphill walk with approximately 550 steps to the viewing platform. For the Mostnica Gorge, there is a large car park near Stara Fužina for a small fee.
Yes, an entrance fee is required to visit the Savica Waterfall, typically around 3 Euros. The Mostnica Gorge also charges an entrance fee for path maintenance.
The Mostnica Gorge is known for its crystal-clear, emerald green water and sections that narrow to a shoulder's width. You can also observe unique rock formations, including a hollow rock famously shaped like an 'elephant's head' ('slonček'), and a triple waterfall in the upper Voje valley.
Bohinj offers a variety of waterfall hikes. For example, you can explore the Voje Valley and the Mostnica Gorge loop, which is a moderate 13.7 km trail. There are also longer, more difficult routes like the 23.4 km Savica River Viewpoint – Lake Bohinj loop. Many trails lead through forests and offer stunning views of the cascades and surrounding nature.
While the water at Grmečica Falls is swimmable, it is known to be very cold. At Savica Waterfall, swimming is not permitted.
Yes, near the Mostnica Gorge, you can find a restaurant serving Turkish coffee and strudel at the end of the trail, just before the Mostnica Waterfall. There are also refreshments and toilets available at the car park for Savica Waterfall.
Beyond hiking, the Bohinj region offers excellent opportunities for gravel biking and mountain biking. You can find various routes, such as the Sava Bohinjka River – View of Lake Bohinj loop for gravel biking or the Zajamniki Alpine Pasture loop for mountain biking, allowing you to explore the diverse landscapes around the waterfalls.
Given the varied terrain and potential for wet conditions, it's advisable to wear sturdy hiking shoes with good grip. Layers of clothing are recommended to adapt to changing weather, and a rain jacket is always a good idea. For the Mostnica Gorge, some visitors suggest bringing a bathing suit in warm weather.
The Savica Waterfall holds significant historical and literary meaning for Slovenes. It was notably glorified in France Prešeren's epic poem 'The Baptism at Savica,' making it a culturally important natural landmark.
