The stone base shown is the foundation of the so-called "King's Column". A column dedicated to the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf stood on this base. The column was erected in the 1920s by the then owner of the castle, Julius Friedrich Lehmann. Lehmann was a great admirer of the Swedish king and wanted to commemorate the Thirty Years' War with the monument. Near the castle, during the war, there was a Swedish army camp. Various remnants from that time were later found there. Interestingly, the king himself probably never stayed directly at the castle, but rather stayed in nearby Windsheim. Today, only the massive, round base made of natural stones remains; the actual column is no longer present. Source: Google ; Markt Ipsheim
