The church Igreja de Santa Maria was built in the 15th century and consists of a single nave with a quadrangular floor plan. The main chapel is slightly higher than the rest of the church. Visitors can view the baptistery and the high choir. On the side, there is a door, decorated with natural stone, dating from the early 16th century. The main altar is surprisingly painted with luminous chromaticism and biblical scenes. This church is considered by the people to be the mother church because it replaced Igreja de Santa Maria da Graça, which was destroyed by fire during the earthquake in 1755. The church was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century.
